The oldest and most traditional kind of drive to get is a floppy disk drive. This kind of drive reads and writes to portable magnetic diskettes, which can be used to transport small files between computers. As technology has moved to incorporate entertainment, these diskettes have largely become obsolete–but floppy drives are quite inexpensive, and there’s really no reason not to have one, especially if you’ve got older files that are still stored on floppies.
Floppy disks are being replaced by CDs and DVDs, which are able to transport large amounts of data on a single written disk. To make sure your computer has full CD/DVD capabilities, you will need a CD drive, a CD burner to write CDs, and a DVD player.
